Saving the World, one bag at a time

I was so impressed by the lack of plastic bags in Vienna that I was inspired to look into more environmentally friendly options around our house as well. Not only have I been using the reusable bags I bought from Whole Foods (and I take them to Dominicks too!), but I decided to often simply say "no bag, thank you." I'll just take my new merchandise and stick it in my purse or another bag when I've been shopping for a while.

Hubby was concerned with this newfound discouragement of plastic bags since G poops two or three times a day. What would we do for poop bags?? I did some research and found small dog bags that are made to decompose within a short amount of time and are partially made from natural materials. So instead of my poop bags hanging around town for over 1,000 years and seeping toxins into the soil, my poop bags decompose within months, leaving corn-based chemicals behind. I was quite happy with this find. If you are in Chicago, you can get the bags at Soggy Paws, where G gets her haircuts, or you can find them on Amazon. (Actually more expensive on Amazon, who knew?)

I'm quite happy with my little discovery, and am going to continue to try and find more and more ways to be environmentally friendly each month. Hubby thinks these things are somewhat worthless - it's just one person doing a tiny bit right? But I think it's the thought that counts. And thoughts are contagious, so if you show one person how easy it is to change a small part of their life and they tell one person, then it can catch on rather quickly!

To end on a happy note, I'll post a picture of my G, now an environmentally friendly pup.
